About Master Qigong Teacher, Peter Caughey
Peter Caughey, founder of Forest Rock Qigong, is a Master teacher in Qigong, Taiji and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Peter is a Doctor of TCM, Taiji Quan and Qigong Master, Acupuncturist, Chinese Medical Herbalist, and published author, with over 30 years of experience.
As the last remaining teacher of the 真璣道太極拳自我防衛指導所 Zan Gei Dou Taai Gik Kyun Zi Ngo Fong Wai Zi Dou So (Cantonese) or Zhēn Ji Dào Tài Jí Quán Zì Wǒ Fáng Wèi Zhǐ Dǎo Suǒ (Mandarin) Monastery School, meaning “True Pearl Way Supreme Ultimate Fist Self-Defence Instruction School.”
This is a private, monastery-school lineage originating from a southern Chinese monastery tradition. The lineage is closed and exclusive, emphasizing preservation of its purity rather than widespread dissemination. It is not documented in major historical records of famous Taiji styles (e.g., Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun) or well-known Daoist monasteries (Wu dang, Shao lin). Instead, it is a family/monastery-specific transmission, It is preserved and taught primarily through Peter Caughey, a New Zealander-based in Bali Indonesia who is the last remaining known teacher and lineage holder of this specific transmission.
With over thirty years of teaching and clinical experience, Peter has helped more than 40,000 students around the world reconnect with their energy, health, and wellbeing through Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He taught Qigong as part of the TCM Degree programme at the New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than twelve years.
Peter is a member of the World Qigong Association and the National Qigong Association (USA), and his credentials include acupuncture, Chinese medical herbalism, and published authorship. He continues to lead Forest Rock's teacher training programmes internationally, preserving this lineage and transmitting its wisdom through structured, rigorous practice.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
There are no formal prerequisites. The training is open to anyone who is genuinely committed to the work. We do recommend, however, that you have some prior experience with a Qigong or Taiji teacher before the in-person phase begins. When you enrol, you will have early access to the online material so you can begin practising the three main Qigong systems before the course starts.
-
Qigong is a gentle form of exercise. You do not need prior experience to attend, and the practice is suitable for most levels of fitness. We recommend that you are in reasonably good health, as the in-person phase involves daily physical practice from 9am to 6pm.
-
You must be at least 18 years old. There is no upper age limit.
-
If you already hold a healthcare or movement-based qualification, you will likely find Qigong is a strong complementary practice, both for your own development and for the students or patients youwork with.
-
Yes. Teaching is one of the most effective ways to deepen your own practice. It shifts your focus outward and gives you a clear sense of how your own energy and technique are manifesting in realtime. Many of our most experienced students take this training to mature and refine what they have been practising for years.
-
Yes. Many of our students take this training simply to deepen their personal practice. Certification is offered upon completion of the training, choosing to teach professionally is entirely up to you.
-
Yes. Transmission is not bound by physical proximity, it moves through attention, presence, and the quality of the teacher-student relationship. Peter has guided thousands of students through in-person and online training, and the depth of their practice speaks for itself.
What the in-person phase adds is the embodied dimension: hands-on correction, partner work, the felt experience of practising in shared physical space. The online phase establishes the foundation of theory, principle, and practice. The in-person phase grounds it in the body. Together they form a complete training.
-
For theory, structure, and self-practice, yes. For physical correction, energetic feedback, and the relational dimension of the work only partially. This is precisely why the training is hybrid.
The online phase teaches you what can be learned well online: the systems, the principles, the framework. The in-person phase teaches you what can only be learned in person: the felt experience, the corrections, and the direct relationship between teacher and student. The integrity of the work requires both.

Forest Rock Qigong certifications are issued by Forest Rock LLC (USA) and are recognised within the international Qigong and wellness community. Peter Caughey holds active membership in the World Qigong Association (China), the National Qigong Association (USA), and is a registered member of the New Zealand Acupuncture Association. Forest Rock graduates teach professionally in many countries.
Qigong teaching is not regulated by a single global governing body, so there is no universal accreditation standard. What our certification represents is completion of a structured, rigorous, lineage-based training, and in most jurisdictions, this is sufficient to teach professionally.
